Mr. Pagawisan’s Advanced Biology class has been hard at work exploring how the human body maintains balance and responds to change! 🧠💪
Students recently completed a hands-on lab focused on Human Body System Interactions and Homeostasis, where they took part in three engaging activities:
🔬 Activity 1: Pulse & Breathing Investigation
Students measured their pulse and breathing rates while sitting, standing, lying down, and after exercise—observing firsthand how the body adjusts to different conditions.
⚡ Activity 2: Stimulus & Response
Using visual, auditory, and tactile cues, students tested their reaction times by catching a falling ruler. This helped them understand how quickly the nervous system processes different types of stimuli.
🌡️ Activity 3: Homeostasis Challenge
In a fun and creative task, students worked to maintain the color, water level, and temperature of a liquid in a cup featuring Homer Simpson—for a full 5 minutes! This activity highlighted the body’s constant effort to stay balanced despite external changes.

FYI: STARTING EARLY MORNING OF WEDNESDAY, 3-25-26, THE SOUTHBOUND LANE OF KENDRICK AVENUE WILL BE CLOSED FROM SLOCUM ST TO ALLARD ST DUE TO A CITY WATER MAIN BREAK!!!
The Northbound lane will remain open at this time for bus traffic.
City crews will be working on the broken water main starting early morning until it is repaired and back in service. Sometimes these repairs can take hours or days. Crews may be working tomorrow evening or into the night. We will keep you updated as we get more information.
The water main break does not affect the school water supply.
Thank you!

Art in Science! 🖌️🔬
Mr. Pagawisan's Sophomore Biology class recently took on the Special Species Activity, where creativity met science! Students randomly selected cards containing Latin and English words from five categories: number, animal, body part, color, and trait.
Using the English words, they crafted unique common names for their imagined species, while the Latin words helped them create scientific names. But the fun didn’t stop there! In the second part of the activity, students brought their species to life through detailed illustrations on the five cards, complete with habitat, diet, and life expectancy.
The results? A showcase of imagination, scientific thinking, and creativity as students blended taxonomy with artistic expression. Great job, young biologists! 🦎🌱🦜

🌱 Exploring Transpiration in Mr. Pagawisan’s Advanced Biology Class! 🔬
The Advanced Biology students had a hands-on learning experience with a Celery Transpiration Experiment! 🥬💧 They observed how water moves through a plant’s vascular system using a solution of water and food color.
After letting the celery stalk sit in the solution for 2 days, they noticed the leaves changed color 🌿🟡—a clear sign of water movement! Under the microscope 🔬, they identified key vascular tissues like the xylem and phloem.
By dissecting the celery, they traced the vascular bundle where the liquid traveled. 🍃—proof of transpiration in action!
