It brings me great pleasure to announce that GPS very own- Val Damron was recently selected as the MCASE educator of the year for the state of MT! Mrs. D is a pre-K teacher at Washington MS and is one of the best child advocates I’ve worked with in my career. She is a tireless worker who always does what’s best for the students she served. Staff member of the month: CONGRATULATIONS to BreAnn Miller- WMS Librarian for being selected this month!!! Mrs. Miller is absolutely a WMS Awesomizer who always is the first to volunteer to help out and always tries to keep a positive, uplifting attitude! Mrs. Miller....YOU ROCK!!! What is your favorite food? Mac & Cheese---All Kinds--All Flavors! What is your favorite thing to do away from school? Well naturally I like to read! I also like to binge watch Netflix. I also like to coach/play volleyball, do yoga...there are just so many things that I enjoy doing! What is your favorite part of working at WMS? I absolutely LOVE being in the library and helping students find that perfect book! It is a fun challenge for me and I love it when we can find that perfect book/reader fit! The people at WMS (students and staff) are also wonderful! It is never a dull moment! What advice do you have for students? This is for your whole life: If you have questions, ask. There is nothing wrong with admitting that you don’t know the answer or you don’t know how to do something. You are always surrounded by people who are here to help you. Teachers are pretty amazing, but we aren’t mind readers! What is your favorite quote? “I believe, every day, you should have at least one exquisite moment.” -Audrey Hepburn

Glendive Public Schools has been working on getting our automated system working for absences. We will start our new system tomorrow, April 11th. If your student is absent, and the school has not been notified that they are excused, you will receive a call from our Notification System (377-9385). There will be two calls a day, morning (10:00) and afternoon (4:00). We want to make sure that you are aware of the absence and if you are aware, that you are reminded to call in to the school to excuse the absence. We thank you for your patience as we work out the kinks of this new system. If you have any questions, please contact the office of your child's school. Thanks!

UPDATE: After our second collection day for the Pennies for Patients fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. To this point our students/staff brought in $638.25! The top homerooms in order after the first collection date: 1st place- Mrs. Vander Veur $126.11 2nd place- Mrs. Hellman $115.21 & 3rd place - OFFICE staff $62.98. I am very proud of everyone for rallying behind this cause! The fundraiser will have 1 more collection dates on 4/5/19. Keep up the great work! For those of you who are not aware, WMS is running a fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society called Pennies for Patients. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the worlds largest nonprofit fighting blood cancer. This topic is very important to us here at WMS as we have multiple staff members who have fought these cancers and won! We hope the funds raised can help others who are currently battling cancer. Today was our first collection day and our students/staff brought in $306.97! I am very proud of everyone for rallying behind this cause (The top home room earns a pizza party so I think that helps the motivation a little bit)! The fundraiser will have 2 more collection dates on 4/2 & the final one will be on 4/5/19. Any businesses who would also like to participate are encouraged to get in touch with Mr. Goyette at 377-3256. We appreciate any/all support! The TIP kids from WMS participated in a Honk and Wave during Kick Butt's Day on March 20th. They made posters and encouraged drivers to honk in recognition of not using tobacco, or If they do use, they encouraged them to quit. The Tobacco Coalition provided doughnuts and hot chocolate for the students when they were done. GO DEMONS!!! #WMSDEMONS #GPSPride #WMSAwesomizers

From Mrs. Vander Veur: Today the sixth grade math students continued their of study of fractions, decimals, and percent. Mrs. VV used a variety of items as visual representations for representing fractions, or parts of a whole. Students were challenged to think through the question, “How much is half?” The students realized through discussion that the size of the object matters much as the value of the number matters. Thanks to the lunchroom ladies for helping slice the food and to Pizza Hut for the boxes. The students had to write percents into decimals and fractions for assessment.
