It was just brought to our attention that there are many people who took the last email to say that we were going online. Glendive Public Schools is not going online. The last email was referencing the emails and messages from the district that notified everyone that we were going to go online because of the two boiler situations at LES and WMS. The purpose of this last email was to have everyone make sure they are getting the messages that we are sending out by updating their information. We are sorry for any confusion that this caused.

Recently, we had to notify everyone that school was going online for WMS and LES. When we send messages out to the community, we send the message out in a variety of ways (Website, App, Facebook, Email, Text, Voice, etc.). This school year we have been shifting away from Facebook as it is not a great way to get all parents information. Currently, the Glendive Public Schools App is the best way to receive information about what is happening in each school. In the last month, we have decided that we are going to utilize Infinite Campus (our School Information System) to deliver messages by email, text, and voice. In order for this to be effective, we need everyone to make sure they have an account set up and that their information is correct in the system. If you are seeing this message on Facebook, our website, or app, but did not get an email, you will need to check with your student’s school to make sure you are set up. Below you will find the Parent Portal Link. Please click on it and login. If you do not have a login, please call your child's school and they can help you set one up. Moving forward, this is how we are going to send most of our information out to parents. This will also be the way for all emergencies that we will get the information out. You need to have a phone number and email address as a minimum. Please note that in order to have a text sent to you, you have to have a cell phone entered and opt in to get that (information on how to do that below). Please log into your Parent Portal: https://mtdecloud3.infinitecampus.org/campus/portal/glendive.jsp Navigate to Settings (in the top right corner) and Select Contact Preferences. Once there, scroll to the bottom of the page to update your Contact Preferences to receive Text Messages from the District. Thank you for your help with ensuring that we are able to reach you with our important information.

Good news at WMS! The boiler parts came in today and they were able to make the appropriate fixes on the boiler and get it running this evening. We will have all "A Group" students in attendance on Wednesday, October 21st. Please make sure your child is dressed for the cold conditions outside as we will be outside before school and during lunch recess. On another note, the end of the quarter is next week. If your child has missing assignments, we have additional academic support until 4 pm each day M-Th (only for the kids who were onsite that day) and on Friday's from 8-2 pm for students who need some extra help getting caught up. Students will be kept in A & B group cohorts on Friday's. Let's finish the quarter strong!

ALL WMS classes will be online again tomorrow. Please have your students check in with their teachers tomorrow morning. Update on the boiler: We had our annual boiler inspection this summer. There were no immediate repairs recommended from the inspectors. Boilers were reassembled and ready to be fired up when temperatures forecasted to drop below 40 degrees for extended periods. Once we fired the boilers, it was determined that the primary gas valves (installed almost 30 years ago) had a leak in them. This was an unforeseen failure as they had just passed inspection. Due to the nature of the gas valves failing, they were leaking natural gas into the boiler room. For the safety of everyone, it was determined that school needed to be moved online until the valves could be replaced. Currently, the closest valves of this type are in Chicago. The valves have been ordered and overnighted. Once here, the repairs will be able to be done so that we will have heat again at WMS. If everything goes well, we should be able to have everyone back in the building on Wednesday. We will update everyone tomorrow once we know more. FYI: LES is a different issue and we will know more later this afternoon about that.

Washington MS staff member of the month for September: CONGRATULATIONS to Mrs. Houck (Reading teacher) for being selected for the month! Here is a little information about Mrs. Houck. Thank you for all you do to make WMS a great place for our students! GO DEMONS! #WMSDEMONS #WMSSTAFFMEMBEROFTHEMONTH #GPSPRIDE What was your favorite thing to do during quarantine? Hiking with my kids in Makoshika State Park What is your favorite outside activity? Hiking, golfing, or playing softball Why did you decide to work at WMS? I love the middle school age; they’re not quite finished yet, but you get wonderful glimpses of who they will become. If you could be any cartoon character who would you choose and why? I would probably choose Scooby Doo; he has a band of tight-knit buddies that always look out for him & feed him Scooby Snacks all day long. He also loves a good mystery, as do I. What is your favorite quote? “It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” —J. K. Rowling “Free will, though it makes evil possible, is also the only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having.” C. S. Lewis

1st day of girls basketball practice has been postponed until we have working heat at WMS. We are hoping it will be Tuesday after school but will not know until repairs take place. We will post practices times as soon as we have things figured out. 1st day of wrestling will be on Tuesday, 10/20 @ 4 pm at DCHS gym. For either sport, a sports physical is required. Please call the office (377-2356) if you have any questions.

Tomorrow, 10/19 with school for WMS being online, lunch will be available for pickup for WMS "A group" students between 11-12:30 pm @ DCHS cafeteria entrance doors. In order to receive the meals, parent/students must call WMS (377-2356 hit 1 for the office) by 9 am for us to have an accurate count of meals needed. Please leave a message if no one answers. Thank you for your patience as we work through this!

WMS classes will be online tomorrow: We have been unable to fire the boiler at WMS because of a found gas leak. With this cold spell that we have, it is too cold to have students in the building all day. Currently the school is between 40-50 degrees and we do not have a way to warm up the building. For the health and safety of our students and staff, all WMS classes tomorrow will be online. Please have your students check in with their teachers tomorrow. Please be on the look out for more information being sent out tomorrow once we know more about the boiler situation.

On October 18, 2020, Glendive Public Schools was notified that a staff member at Washington Middle School and a staff member at Jefferson Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19. Because of how we have structured the classes/schedules to mitigate possible exposure, only a small amount of the staff and students came in contact with the staff member. Contact tracing is ongoing and those individuals who are identified as close contacts will be notified. Glendive Public Schools will continue to take safety precautions to make sure all students and staff are as safe as possible. If any staff or students are at risk of exposure, the Dawson County Health Department will be in contact with that person to determine a safe and appropriate course of action. It is still recommended that any person who feels sick or ill, seek out their medical provider for specific instructions. Glendive Public Schools is following the Dawson County Health Department and CDC guidelines to clean and disinfect our schools every day. School administrators will continue to monitor the situation and will provide further information if and when it becomes available.
